What’s Spotify Wrapped?
It’s that time of the year again! It’s not Christmas (Not yet, at least), but the season when our favourite music platforms unveil their annual recaps, giving us a colourful snapshot of our listening habits. From Spotify to Apple Music to YouTube Music, everyone is posting their Wrapped, Replay, or Year-in-Review, and as always, it’s an exciting moment for music lovers everywhere.
These roundups usually highlight your top five artists, your most-streamed tracks, the total hours (or minutes) you spent listening, your favourite genres, and sometimes even your “music personality.” For many, it’s a fun window into how their year went, and for several others it’s just an interesting way to see how their music taste has evolved over the years.
If you missed it, you can still read our article on last year’s Spotify Wrapped to see how things have changed.

The Annual Secular vs Gospel Debate Returns
Year after year, controversies are sparked, particularly around people who have a mix of gospel and secular artists in their Wrapped. Conversations arise around it like clockwork, with people debating the wisdom of listening to secular and gospel music in such equal measure that they both show up on your yearly roundup. A lot of people believe that you cannot have both, and you either listen to secular or gospel, while others are of the school of thought that music is music, as long as you enjoy it.
Ministers like Dunsin Oyekan in particular, are usually at the forefront of these conversations, pushing for a clearer stand when it comes to the music believers listen to

How you feel about these conversations will depend on your stand on secular music.
So where do you stand? Do you think Christians should listen to secular music, or should gospel music be the only soundtrack of a believer’s life? Tell us in the comments; we’re curious to hear your thoughts.

Music is an important part of our day to day lives, and we only start to really understand it when we see it written out clearly. You can see statistics like: “You listened for 70,564 minutes this year. That’s 49 days of non-stop music!”
Those numbers remind us just how deeply music accompanies us through different seasons of life.
