Chidinma: Five Years After Her Gospel Rebrand, Where Is She Now?

In 2021, Chidinma Ekile made her biggest career decision. After years of mainstream success, hit songs, and a reputation that had made her one of the most recognizable female artists in the country, she announced that she was leaving secular music behind to move fully into gospel music.

This was the same Chidinma people knew from Kedike, Fallen in Love and Emi Ni Baller. She had won Project Fame West Africa in 2010, built a successful career in Afropop, and become a familiar face in Nigerian music.

Then one day, she released Jehovah Overdo.

Chidinma’s move to gospel music was never presented as a small change in direction.

When she announced the transition in 2021, she explained that she was stepping into Christian ministry. EeZee Conceptz, which became her label, described Jehovah Overdo as the beginning of a new chapter after a period when she had stepped away from the public eye to prepare for what was ahead.

There was also something interesting about the fact that Chidinma already had a connection to church music.

According to EeZee Conceptz, she had been involved in church choir and music ministry from a young age. So although the public saw a major career change, she was actually returning to a part of her musical foundation that had always existed.

Still, that did not make the transition any less surprising. She had an established audience. She had songs people already loved. She had a musical identity that was associated with mainstream Nigerian pop.

Five years and three major projects later

Her first gospel project was the New Season EP, released in August 2021.

The title was particularly fitting, and it was followed by Psalm 16 in 2022, an eight-track album featuring collaborations with artists such as KS Bloom, Indira, and Buchi.

Then came The Road Best Traveled in March 2025.

The nine-track album explored faith, God’s direction, grace and personal testimony. Songs including Jesus, Testimony, Victory and I Recommend Jesus.

And she has not stopped there.

In 2026, she released Goodness & Mercy featuring Prinx Emmanuel. She also released Odogwu featuring Prospa Ochimana in May.

Her latest listed release is I Love You Lord, released in July 2026.

For fans who grew up with her earlier music, hearing Chidinma sing about Jesus now can feel like watching someone they have known for years enter a completely different chapter of their life.

And that in itself is a type of evangelism. A living reminder that God can call anyone and use them for His glory.
