7 Tips For The Upcoming AfroGospel Artist

So, you have been invited to minister.

The songs are ready, the band has rehearsed and you know what you want to sing.

But before you step on that stage, here are a few things to keep in mind.

1. Prepare Fully For the Event

Know your songs properly.

Know the lyrics, the transitions, where you want the musicians to come in. Know what you will do if the sound changes or something goes wrong.

Preparation gives you room to be fully present when you finally get on stage.

2. Know the Assignment

Before the event, understand what you have been invited to do.

Is it a worship night? A concert? A church service? A youth gathering? A conference?

The answer should influence your song choices, your communication and even how much time you spend speaking between songs.

You do not have to force every song you know into one set.

3. Don’t Chase the Crowd

Sometimes the room will be loud, and sometimes it will be quiet.

Sometimes people will sing along with everything, and sometimes they will simply stand and listen.

Do not panic when the response is different from what you expected.

Your responsibility is not to manufacture a reaction from people.

Lead well, pay attention to the room and leave space for people to respond naturally.

4. Work With Your Instrumentalists

A minstrel can have an incredible voice and still have a difficult set if the communication with the band is poor.

Rehearse your transitions, agree on keys and know your cues.

If you want to repeat a chorus, change the arrangement or move into spontaneous worship, make sure the musicians understand what you are doing.

The goal is for everyone on stage to be in sync

5. Don’t Let Social Media Enter the Room

It is easy to think about the clips and all the content that will come out of the ministration.

The crowd reaction, and the spontaneous moment that could become a TikTok sound.

But you cannot be fully present if you are already imagining how the moment will look online.

6. Give Room for the Holy Spirit

Preparation matters, but not every moment has to be rehearsed.

If a song needs another chorus, stay there.

If there is a moment to pray, pray.

If the atmosphere calls for silence, do not be afraid of silence.

All in all, let the Holy Spirit lead you.

7. Remember the People in Front of You

The people in the room are not an audience you need to impress. They are real people.

That should affect how you minister. Pay attention, and remember why you were invited in the first place: To minister.

So before you step on that stage, prepare to the best of your ability, pray, then go and minister.

Give the room your preparation, your gift and your attention, and leave room for God to do what only He can do.
