What happens when every song becomes a trend or when we try to put beats we can vibe to into every song?

Minister Dunsin Oyekan made an observation that deserves some thought. He said that songs with the potential to bring revival can end up on TikTok as dance trends, adding that “we need to wake up.”

We live in a time when almost anything can become a trend. A song drops, someone creates a dance, and before long, thousands of people are using the sound. Sometimes, the song is sped up, remixed or modified to fit whatever is currently trending.

There is nothing wrong with dancing. Scripture itself gives us moments of joyful celebration. But Scripture also gives us songs of lament, repentance, reflection, surrender and deep contemplation.

Not every song was written to make you dance.

And when every song is gbedu-fied, turned into a dance, or reduced to its most catchy part, we risk losing the weight that comes with some of these songs.

The same thing can happen in worship meetings.

Sometimes, instead of putting our phones away and focusing on God, we are busy recording the minister, capturing the atmosphere or trying to get the perfect clip for social media. We can become so occupied with documenting the moment that we fail to actually experience what God may be doing in the moment.

If all we are looking for is vibes, we may miss the conviction.

If all we want is excitement, we may miss the instruction.

If everything must become content, we may lose the ability to simply sit before God.

Revival is not merely noise, dancing or emotional excitement. Joy can certainly be part of it, but revival also brings conviction, repentance, weeping, surrender and sober reflection.

Perhaps we need to recover the ability to recognise that not every spiritual moment needs a camera, and not every spiritual song needs a dance.
