Worship Gatherings: Experiencing God Beyond The Church Walls

Across Nigeria’s gospel landscape, something powerful is happening. Worship is no longer limited to Sunday services, choir ministrations, or church auditoriums alone. It is taking on new forms through intentional gatherings led by worship ministers who are creating spaces for people to truly encounter God.

They are spaces where sound, prayer, and presence converge, and thousands, and in some cases millions, now log in online or gather physically to worship, pray, and seek God together.

Here are some of our favourites:

Hallelujah Challenge

What began as a simple Instagram Live session has grown into a global worship altar.

The Hallelujah Challenge, started in 2017, is a midnight online worship and prayer movement that gathers believers from across the world. People log in from different time zones to sing, pray, and testify together.

It marked a major turning point in worship culture, showing that divine encounter is not limited by location.

Upper Room

Led by Dunsin Oyekan, Upper Room is a fellowship gathering centered on deep worship, prayer, and communion with God.

Inspired by the biblical Upper Room, it creates space for believers to go beyond songs into stillness, surrender, and encounter.

It is presence-driven, a raw atmosphere where people tarry, wait, and respond to the move of the Holy Spirit. Worship is not rushed, and the presence of God becomes the central focus above everything else.

Breathe with Onos

Onos Ariyo leads Breathe, a worship gathering that focuses on deep worship, prophetic declarations, and intimate encounters with God.

It is structured around God’s presence, with emphasis on stillness, reflection, and allowing worship to flow naturally without pressure or performance.

A Growing Shift in Worship Culture

What connects these gatherings is how intentional they are, and how much emphasis is placed on God’s presence.

Through these movements, worship is expanding into something more immersive. People are no longer just attending service, they are seeking personal encounters with God.

Alongside these, several other worship expressions are shaping the landscape:
