After years of stirring live worship recordings, our gospel heavyweight Tasha Cobbs Leonard has stepped into a bold new chapter. On July 25, 2025, she released TASHA — her first-ever fully studio-crafted album, marking a creative milestone in her career.
I mean, it’s Tasha Cobbs. From the days of “Fill Me Up”, “For Your Glory”, “You Still Love Me” — even to not-so-recent ones like “This Is Move” and “I’m Getting Ready”, we can attest to the inspiration and power that both voice and lyrics carries. Right now, she’s back with another cook of songs titled “TASHA”.
Without mincing words, Cobbs Leonard described TASHA as the most personal thing she’s ever released — a project rooted in candor, clarity, and spiritual honesty. From the opening chords, you can sense vulnerability. Prior to the release of the song, she took to her Instagram page to talk about what people have been saying about her long break, and in her words, she says….
“I’m letting go of the weight, not the glory.”
And then, she went ahead to show us how she let go of the weight –literally physically and emotionally. What felt like a moment of backslidden to many, was actually redefining moments for a season such as this. Tracks like “Broken Pieces” explore pain, while “Already Good (Tasha Slide)” captures unexpected joy — and all in the same breath, it’s reminding us that faith isn’t monochromatic.
This album isn’t confined to traditional gospel. With contributions from her husband/producer Kenneth Leonard Jr., TASHA stretches into hip‑hop, pop, R&B, and even ’80s-style balladry—and yes, even a brush with bluegrass vibes. Collaborations with stars like John Legend (“Church”), Kirk Franklin (“I Still Choose You”), Lecrae (“I Needed God”), and Chandler Moore (“I Want More”) reinforce the album’s cross-genre ambition.
Take the track “Church”, featuring John Legend on piano. It’s stripped-down, intimate — no gimmicks, no stadium lights, just two voices and a piano, calling us into sacred space. Meanwhile, “Already Good (Tasha Slide)” has already become a viral anthem—proof that worship and dance can coexist seamlessly.

For an artist who is already streamed billions of times and won multiple Grammys and Dove awards, TASHA represents more than artistic growth; it’s spiritual evolution. In her own words, the album allows her to “say the quiet things out loud” — to embrace authenticity, even when it’s messy or imperfect.
Why Does This Album Matters?
- Authenticity over polish—Too often, gospel gets boxed into expected tones. TASHA challenges that by celebrating complexity.
- Bringing bridge-building collaborations—The album creates space where gospel, urban, and mainstream artistry unite.
- Worship beyond genre—Cobbs Leonard doesn’t just sing gospel; she reimagines it for a broader, contemporary audience.
I personally think that this album is going to be a wholesome one to most people, and I look forward to testimonies that will come with it. But I’d like to hear from you….
Have you caught the wave of the new album?
