My Favourite Gospel Music Collaborations Over the Years

There is something particularly powerful about two anointed voices coming together on one song. When gospel artists collaborate, the result is often more than just good music and African gospel music has produced some of those moments over the years.

Here are some of my favourite gospel music collaborations over the years.

1. Nathaniel Bassey ft. Enitan Adaba — Imela

If there is one collaboration that defined a generation of Nigerian gospel music, it is this one. “Imela,” which means “Thank You” in Igbo, is a song of deep gratitude to God.

2. Tim Godfrey ft. Travis Greene — Nara

“Nara” is a cut from the 2018 Fearless Victory Concert in Lagos, where Tim Godfrey performed alongside multiple award-winning American artist Travis Greene. The song, inspired by gratitude and faith, features rich choir backing, dynamic instrumentation and a call-and-response structure.

3. Nathaniel Bassey ft. Dunsin Oyekan & Dasola Akinbule — Iba

“Iba,” which means reverence and deep obeisance in the Yoruba language, is an uplifting song of worship and praise that extols the Almighty God with deep reverence and adoration.

4. Sunmisola Agbebi ft. Lawrence Oyor — My Daddy My Daddy

“My Daddy My Daddy” was recorded at Sunmisola’s live recording concert “AIIIH” (As It Is In Heaven), held at the Charis Event Center in October 2022.  The song was originally written by Lawrence Oyor and it became frequently associated with intense, heartfelt worship sessions and gained significant traction on social media and streaming platforms.

5. Nathaniel Bassey ft. Micah Stampley — This God Is Too Good

Nathaniel Bassey released “This God Is Too Good” as a personal testimony of God’s goodness, featuring international gospel minister Micah Stampley. The song served as the title track of his 2016 album, a fourteen-track worship project.
In Nathaniel’s own words at the time of release: “I present to you my testimony, today. Words would fail me. Just thought to put it together in this song.”

Looking across these songs, one thing stands out clearly: the best gospel collaborations aren’t driven by strategy or industry calculation. They happen when artists who share a genuine love for God and a commitment to worship come together with a single purpose and that is to minister unto the Lord and His people.

The result, as these songs prove, is music that outlives the moment it was created in. Music that still moves people years later.
