The story of Easter is a beautiful one. As we celebrate the death and resurrection of our King, we find ourselves reflecting on songs that attempt to express the magnitude of what God did for us on the cross. One of such songs is “Orá Mi Pada” by New Gen Worshippers. Come along as we take a closer look at the lyrics.
“O rá mi padà”
O rá mi padà, o rá mi padà
(He bought me back, He bought me back)
At the very heart of Easter is redemption.
The phrase “O rá mi padà” translates directly to “He bought me back.” And that is exactly what Jesus did. Humanity was lost, separated, and bound, but through His sacrifice, we were purchased back.

Scripture reminds us: “You were bought with a price…” (1 Corinthians 6:20)
Christ paid the ultimate price to redeem us from what we could never escape on our own.
“Lọwọ́ ẹ̀ṣù, lọ́wọ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, lọ́wọ́ ikú”
(From the hands of the devil, from the hands of sin, from the hands of death)
We were not just lost , we were held. Bound by sin, under the influence of darkness, and subject to death. Through His sacrifice, we were delivered completely.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1)
“Ìyè mi wà nínú rẹ”
(My life is in You)
This line is a declaration of our new identity. Our lives are no longer our own, they are hidden in Christ.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20)
“Mo rí ìyè gbà, ayọ̀ mi kún”
(I have received life, my joy is full)
The resurrection of Christ is a loud, joyful, undeniable triumph. Because of Christ, we have life, and that life brings fullness of joy.

“Ikú òrò rẹ̀ dá, ìsà òkú ìṣẹ́gun rẹ̀ dá”
(Death could not hold Him, the grave could not stop His victory)
Death tried. The grave thought it could hold Him, but theesurrection power broke through.
“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
“Ó gba kọ́kọ́rọ́ lọ́wọ́ ikú, ó gbé ikú mi ní ìṣẹ́gun”
(He took the keys from death, He turned my death into victory)
Christ didn’t only escape death , He conquered it. He took authority over it.
“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore… and I hold the keys of death and Hades.” (Revelation 1:18)
What was once our end has now become our victory!
From redemption to freedom.
From death to life.
From sorrow to joy.
Orá Mi Pada is more than a song, it is the Easter story, told in song. It reminds us that what happened on the cross was deeply personal.
Jesus died for us. He bought us back. He set us free. He gave us life.
And that is why we celebrate.
So this Easter, what songs are you listening to?
