Do You Remember Oyindamola Adejumo?

If you grew up listening to gospel music in the early 2000s, there is a good chance the name Oyindamola Adejumo sounds familiar. Perhaps you remember her songs or maybe you remember seeing her around the old Mount Zion gospel-movie scene.

She started taking music seriously while she was in tertiary institution, joining the choir and eventually developing a music ministry of her own. In 1996, she founded the Oratorio Music Foundation, and one of her earliest compositions was “Werewere,” a song she wrote while she was still a university student.

Then came “High Rise” in 2004.

The album became an important part of her musical journey, and “Werewere” was one of its standout songs. Two decades later, she would return to the song with a new generation of creatives, releasing a 20th-anniversary remake in 2025.

But music wasn’t the only place where Oyindamola was active.

She also had a connection with Mount Zion Faith Ministries. In an interview, she recalled being invited by Mount Zion to act in gospel films and said she performed well. That period is particularly interesting when you consider how closely gospel music and Christian filmmaking were connected in Nigeria at the time.

And yes, this was the era of those classic Mount Zion movies that many of us watched repeatedly. The Haunting Shadows, produced and directed by Mike Bamiloye, was one of those productions, released in multiple parts in the mid-2000s.

Oyindamola, however, eventually focused more heavily on music, academics and her professional career. She is also a development economist and has worked outside music. But music never completely left.

Her catalogue has continued to grow, with projects including “Unmatchable” , “Be Praised” , “Thankful Life” and “Iyanu” . She has also continued releasing new music, including “Jubelo” and the recent “Werewere” remake.
