Who is Soul Snatcha?

Adekunle Adeyoola, professionally known as Soul Snatcha, is a Nigerian gospel rap artist, actor, and CEO of Assalt TV. He is one of the pioneers who helped carve out space for gospel rap in Nigeria long before the genre had the audience it commands today.

Soul Snatcha formed Rooftop MCs in 2002. This name was inspired by the Bible verse Matthew 10:27 alongside his partner Sokleva. The duo quickly became one of the most recognizable names in Nigerian gospel rap.

The group released four albums including “Shock Therapy,” “The 2nd First Impression,” “Minority Report,” and “Back At One,” along with singles like “Lagimo” featuring Cobhams and “Shock Therapy” — both of which were nominated for The Headies Award for Best Rap Single in 2008.

In 2010, after several years of collaboration, the band took a break as both members felt individually directed by God to pursue separate paths.

Soul Snatcha got married and started his family in the UK. He and his wife Abimbola had four children together but in November 2019, he lost her after a period of illness.

It was a devastating season. But what came next became one of gospel music’s most beautiful second-chance stories.

In December 2021, Soul Snatcha proposed to fellow gospel artist Nikki Laoye on her 41st birthday. The couple tied the knot on March 18, 2022.

And if you’ve been following the popular Nigerian Christian series Abattoir, you’ve been hearing his voice without even knowing it. Soul Snatcha is featured on the show’s theme song titled “Revolution” — the track that plays at the opening of every episode. The song was put together by Jaymikee, who featured Soul Snatcha on the record.

Through all of it — the pioneering years, the break, the loss, the new beginning — Soul Snatcha never stopped making music. He released his solo album “The Value of Nothing” in 2016, followed by the “Drunken Masters: Live” album in 2020, and singles including “Mighty God (Drunk’n Worship)” with Nikki Laoye and “Children of God” featuring Angeloh.

His story isn’t just about music. It’s about a man who chose God over fame, rebuilt after loss, and kept creating through every season.
