“Baby Oh” & “Ife Mi” by Emma OMG: What I Think About The Songs

Emma OMG, whose real name is Emmanuel Edunjobi, is a Nigerian comedian, musician, and content creator that is also loud about his Christian faith. He is known for his comedy skits and musical performances, in which he often incorporates Yoruba culture and language into the body of his work.

With and without collaborations, Emma has released quite a number of songs – from faith based to love songs, to patriotic songs, but he’s getting into the spotlight this month because of these two love songs: Baby Oh & Ife Mi.

The song “Baby Oh” was released on the 3rd of April 2019 featuring Evelle, while “Ife Mi” was released November 8th, 2024 featuring Oluwaseun Nla and his beautiful wife, in celebration of the deep love shared over the years with his wife, Yetunde Edunjobi.

“Baby Oh” is a blend of Afrobeat and R&B, with Emma OMG’s smooth vocals and Evelle’s soulful delivery. The lyrics express deep affection and commitment to a loved one, making it a perfect dedication for weddings or romantic moments. And while the song is a great one, I am more drawn to “Ife Mi” particularly because of its background story, and how much it reflects the virtues of the Christian faith, especially as it pertains to love.

The ‘Ife Mi’ song was dedicated to celebrating their eight years of Wedding Anniversary. According to Emma OMG, he said he’s had that song written, years before meeting his wife; and it’s such a beautiful thing to see the realities – more like an expression of a fulfilling prophecy that was envisioned through lyrics.

“Ife Mi” is a beautiful love song, a heartfelt expression of love and commitment, celebrating the beauty and depth of connection between partners. The song’s lyrics, sung in Yoruba, conveys deep affection and appreciation for a loved one, highlighting their importance and the joy they bring. The melody is sweet and soothing to the heart, it does create a warm and romantic atmosphere, and more than that, you can relish in the beauty of what God’s love truly is.

As Christians, the basis of our faith is love. That is to say, we are not allergic to love. Oh, what’s that saying again? You can’t speak for others but yourself, right? Yeah! I am fully aware that making decisions on love matters, in the right and ideal way, can never be done outside God who created and curated the concept.

Just like Emma, God’s vision and plan about how His love is going to change the world was written at different times in the Old Testament before seeing the fulfillment in the New Testament, and so, to enjoy the best out of love, a lesson to learn here is trusting God for the best choice of a partner, and envisioning what you desire until you see them play out.

In Emma’s words “Love is one of God’s greatest gifts, and I hope ‘Ife Mi’ inspires you to celebrate your own relationships and cherish the beauty and depth of your connections with your partner.”

And in this month of love, we are reiterating the same to you.
