Who Is Nathaniel Bassey?
Nathaniel Bassey was born on August 27, 1981, in Lagos, Nigeria, into a Christian family from Akwa Ibom State. His father, Pastor E. Joshua Bassey, was a minister, and Nathaniel grew up with the church’s music deeply embedded in his life. From a young age, he developed an uncommon love for jazz and trumpet music, inspired by greats like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Hugh Masekela, and Charlie Parker.

He studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos, and later pursued further studies abroad, including music studies at Middlesex University Summer School in the UK.
Music Journey
Nathaniel began his musical journey as a jazz trumpeter, playing with notable groups like the Steve Rhodes Orchestra and the Spectrum 4 jazz quartet.
In 2008, he released his debut gospel album, Elohim, recorded in Cape Town, South Africa. The album — especially the track “Someone’s at the Door” was a huge hit.
The Hallelujah Challenge
In June 2017, Nathaniel Bassey started something that would reshape how believers connect for worship online: the #HallelujahChallenge — a daily midnight praise and prayer session streamed live on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

The idea was simple but powerful: believers join him from 12:00 am to 1:00 am in worship and prayer. Within a month, the challenge had hundreds of thousands of views.
Pastor, Mentor, and Worship Leader
Beyond music, Nathaniel serves as a pastor at The Oasis Lagos, the youth church of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) King’s Court.
He’s also committed to mentorship and worship training, helping young musicians and worship leaders grow in both skill and character. His emphasis on integrity, spiritual depth, and musical excellence has influenced a generation of worshippers.

Family Life
Behind the music and ministry, Nathaniel Bassey is blessed with a beautiful family. He met his wife Sarah Bassey in 2008, and after a long friendship, they married on April 13, 2013. Sarah is from Eket, Akwa Ibom State, and holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Uyo. She is widely recognized as a supportive partner in his ministry and often encourages young women in areas of faith and purity.

The couple lives in Lagos, Nigeria, and they are blessed with two children. While they maintain some privacy around their family life, Nathaniel occasionally shares moments with them on his social media platforms
In early 2026, Bassey released a new worship album titled “The Glory of His Presence,” a deeply spiritual project meant to draw listeners into reverence, prayer, thanksgiving, and devotion. He described the work as an “atmosphere” that carries a tangible sense of God’s presence. Currently the album ranks among the Top 10 albums on the Spotify Top albums Debut Global.
