If you were active in Nigerian gospel music circles in the mid-2000s, the name Infinity needs no introduction. They were a five-man gospel music group whose hit album “Olori Oko” ruled the airwaves in 2006, becoming the toast of many gospel music lovers in Nigeria and beyond.
The group was made up of Kehinde Akinbode (Kenny K’ore), Joe Okougbo, David Thomas, Samson Nnogo, and Sunny Steve. Their career actually began on a university campus, where these young men were drawn together by a shared passion for music, with the goal of making fellowship more interesting for fellow youth. What started as a campus ministry eventually grew into one of Nigeria’s most celebrated gospel music groups.
Their flagship song “Olori Oko” sold over 10 million physical CD units worldwide, with 90% of those sales coming from across African nations — making it one of Africa’s biggest-selling records of its era. The group won eight awards at the debut edition of the Nigeria Music Video Awards and has often been referred to as the best gospel music groups in Nigeria.
Beyond the hit song, their album contained a rich collection of gospel classics — Only Praise, Aye Ole, Jesus Knows, and Nigeria — songs that demonstrated both their musical depth and spiritual conviction.
The group didn’t end with a dramatic fallout. Members left one by one as individual paths diverged. Kenny K’ore’s departure came after the group took time out to fast and pray with their then-Pastor, Pastor Nuel Manufor, and eventually the group decided to let him go.
His feelings about leaving were telling. “I cried because they were my comfort zone. They were not just my colleagues, but friends for 11 years. I knew I would miss them, and I still miss them,” he shared.
David Karnji followed later, explaining that something laid it in his spirit that it was time to move to the next level, and that after discussing it with his partners and praying together, he was “sent forth.”
Infinity may no longer be active, but their music has outlived their time together. And for those who were there, they remain simply unforgettable.
