A Weekend of New Gospel Music: Gaise Baba and Nathaniel Bassey Release New Albums

Something has been cooking, and the wait is finally over. After days of anticipation, Gaise Baba has officially released his new album, God Is Cooking, and the 13-track project is now available for your listening pleasure.

If the title has you wondering what exactly Gaise Baba has been cooking, the answer is a full musical feast. The album artwork describes the project as a “13-course meal,” and judging from the tracklist, there is quite a variety on the menu.

The album opens with “Lenu (Intro)” before moving into “Show Workings,” featuring Greatman Takit, and “Oruko.” It also includes the already-loved “No Turning Back II” featuring Lawrence Oyor, which became one of the biggest gospel songs to emerge from Nigeria in recent years.

But Gaise Baba doesn’t stop there.

There is “Want to Grow,”Yield,” and “Smile for Joy” featuring South African singer Nontokozo Mkhize. The album also takes a wider African perspective with “Light of Africa,” while “He’s Not Done” features Ghanaian singer Cofi Boham. “Fire,” featuring Kaestrings, adds another collaboration to the project before the album eventually closes with “We Will Go.”

Interestingly, the album’s tracklist feels like more than a collection of songs. The accompanying album notes describe a journey that moves from reverence and identity, through commitment, growth, hope and witness, and eventually into surrender and the Great Commission.

Well another exciting release came in for gospel music lovers. We thought we were going to spend the weekend enjoying Gaise Baba’s God is Cooking but we got another reason to feast as Pastor Nathaniel Bassey also released his new project The Life Recording yesterday.

The live worship project features seven tracks, including “Agbanilagbatan,” “Praise The Lord,” “The Battle Belongs to God (Praise Medley),” “The Potentate,” “Glory to God in the Highest,” “Onye Kam Ga Si Na Oyiri Gi” featuring Mirabel Ekezie, and “New Beauty.

So, it looks like this is a season of feasting and enjoyment for us! Two major gospel releases in one weekend? We are definitely eating good.
