From Lagos to London: The Lux City Choir’s Britain’s Got Talent Journey

There are moments in music that stop you mid-scroll. The Lux City Choir’s appearance on Britain’s Got Talent 2026 was one of them. The collective, creatively led by UK-based Nigerian producer, creative director, and arranger Josh Bowale, made a remarkable journey to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent 2026, captivating audiences with a powerful fusion of African musical expression, contemporary worship culture, and a rich choir presentation. If you haven’t heard of The Lux City Choir before here’s everything you need to know about them.

The Lux City Choir competed in Semi-Final 3 alongside six other acts, performing live for public votes on Saturday, 9th May. For a gospel choir rooted in African worship culture to reach that stage on one of the world’s most watched talent platforms is no small thing.

What made their performances particularly compelling was their intentional approach to identity. Josh explained it well: “We never wanted African identity to feel like an addition to the performance.”

For Josh and the choir, the BGT stage carried a deeper emotional weight. “For many of us, it felt like carrying pieces of home onto an international stage,” he shared. That sentiment resonated far beyond the ITV studio to gospel music communities watching and cheering from thousands of miles away.

The collective is also preparing upcoming Lux City Pop-Up Sessions in both London and Lagos, centered around worship, creativity, collaboration, and community. Josh describes the choir as a growing creative and worship community focused on creating meaningful spaces for younger creatives to express both artistry and faith authentically.

That vision is clearly connecting. The Lux City Choir didn’t just perform on a global stage, they represented something bigger. They showed that African gospel music, in all its richness and cultural depth, belongs in every room it walks into. The journey from Lagos to London is just getting started.
