When you think about gospel music, certain images and sounds often come to mind: soulful melodies, powerful testimonies, heartfelt worship, and maybe more or not. And Chidinma Ekile’s The Road Best Travelled beautifully captures all of these elements, yet somehow feels even more intimate — it’s like having a conversation with an old friend who has seen the valleys and the mountaintops, and is inviting you to walk alongside her for a while. So, we listened on your behalf and here’s what we think:
First, it’s important to quickly remind you a bit about Chidinma’s background to truly appreciate this album. Known initially for her vibrant presence in the secular music scene — especially after winning Project Fame West Africa in 2010 — Chidinma spent years charming audiences with pop hits and collaborations. But in 2021, she made a bold and public redirection of her life and music towards the gospel genre. And The Road Best Travelled is one of her most personal projects since making that life-changing decision.
Right from the first track, Chidinma establishes that this isn’t just another album — it’s a testimony. The music feels less like entertainment and more like a ministry, filled with songs that speak of transformation, gratitude, trust in God, and the beautiful discovery of purpose. There’s a consistent thread of sincerity that runs through each song, which makes listening a deeply rewarding experience.
“Victory” is a soulful song to a heart that is experiencing weariness, hate, and vengeance. It speaks calmness and serves as a soothing balm to a grieving heart that is fully trusting God for healing. If you’re currently in this state, this is a song that will help you out of the situation. Beyond the infusion of afrobeat in “Applaudise”, the core message of the song, which is gratitude, wasn’t taken away from what to experience.

How about the “Testimony” track? Only a grateful person will constantly walk others through what a transformative journey has been, and expect that they come into the same experience. Again, the songs in this album were thoughtfully created because she showed to have really owned her faith’s journey – something very personal and not willing to bow to any “Pressure” — that’s another fantastic track by the way.
Aside from the songs, one thing you should definitely note about this album is the production quality. It is rich but not overwhelming, polished yet never distracting from the heart of the message. The blend of contemporary sounds with traditional African rhythms feels effortless. Every beat, every note, feels intentionally crafted to create a space for worship and reflection.

Lyrically, The Road Best Travelled is grounded in scripture and personal experience. Chidinma doesn’t shy away from speaking about the struggles she’s overcome, the lessons she’s learned, and the hope she’s found. Themes of redemption, gratitude, divine leading, and unwavering faith are central to what’s communicated. It’s refreshing to hear an artist be so vulnerable — to admit that the road she’s chosen wasn’t always easy but is undoubtedly the best one because it’s directed by God.
Truly, listening to The Road Best Travelled feels less like ticking songs off a playlist and more like taking a journey. It reminds you that while life’s road can be rough, confusing, or lonely at times, there is a beauty in choosing the path that God has laid out. There’s a certain peace in knowing you’re walking not in your own strength but guided by a higher power.
