If someone had told us ten years ago that one of Nigeria’s favourite online comedians would also become one of the most talked-about gospel artists in the country, we probably would have laughed.
Back then, many of us knew EmmaOMG because he could make almost anything funny.
His comedy videos were everywhere. He had a gift for taking everyday situations, adding music, and creating skits that people wanted to watch over and over again. One of the videos that introduced him to many Nigerians was his humorous parody of Davido’s song titled Fall. It was clever, lighthearted, and instantly memorable. Like many of his early videos, it spread quickly across social media and introduced audiences to his unique style of musical comedy.
Before the millions of views and viral skits, EmmaOMG had already developed a love for music. He grew up singing in church and learning instruments, and even as he created comedy content, music never really left him.
If anything, the skits simply gave him another way to express his creativity while building an audience that would later follow him into gospel music.
Rather than choosing between comedy and music, he found ways to bring both together. His musical arrangements became more sophisticated, his live performances grew in popularity, and he eventually launched The Ohemgee Band, a group that allowed him to explore live music on a much bigger scale. Around the same time, he also introduced Faaji Friday, a series that blended worship, praise, and musical excellence in a way that quickly resonated with audiences.
His songs have reached audiences far beyond the people who first discovered him through comedy. He has collaborated with several respected gospel artists and musicians like Tope Alabi, Kent Edunjobi, and BBO.
For many people, E Ti Tobi To has become their introduction to EmmaOMG as a recording artist. For others who have followed him from his comedy days, it feels like watching someone faithfully grow into the calling that has always been on his life.
Maybe that is what makes his journey so encouraging.
It reminds us that God often prepares people in ways they do not immediately understand. A platform built through comedy eventually became a platform for ministry.
That does not mean comedy disappeared. EmmaOMG still has the warmth, humour, and personality that first made people love his content. Those qualities simply found a new expression alongside music and ministry.
We are excited to see what comes next.
If the past few years are anything to go by, there is still plenty of music ahead, and we cannot wait to hear it.
