Ghana is known for its rich cultural diversity and music scene, with Gospel music holding a special place in the hearts of many. While Gospel music traditionally leans towards soulful melodies and powerful vocalists, the emergence of Gospel rap has added a unique flavour to the genre. In this blog post, we will introduce you to five Ghanaian Gospel rappers you should check out.
1. Naffymar
Phebe Nafisa Umar, known by her stage name Naffymar, is a remarkable urban music sensation hailing from West London, while her Ghanaian roots and Italian citizenship enrich her diverse background.
As a multifaceted artist, she wears the hats of a songwriter, singer, and producer.

After graduating with a degree in Music Performance and Recording from the University of West London, Naffymar’s dedication to her craft led her to collaborate with exceptional artists, broadening her creative horizons.
Naffymar affectionately referred to as the “Gospel Amapiano Queen,” stands as a global pioneer in infusing Amapiano music with a gospel message.
2. Lil Zig
Franklin Attakora Boateng 2010 embarked on his music journey, but it wasn’t until 2012 that Lil Zig fully committed to his craft.

Additionally, Lil Zig wears the hat of a visionary entrepreneur, as he is the founder of Acid Rain Entertainment, a record label dedicated to nurturing and developing talents for the divine cause. His commitment to spreading the word of Christ extends beyond music, as he has initiated a street movement called “InTown4Christ.” This grassroots effort’s primary goal is to lead lost souls to Christ.
3. Preachers
Preachers found their path to the limelight in 2011/2012, making an impressive ascent in the music world. Their achievements included chart-topping hits, a notable nomination for the Best Afro Gospel Rap Group at the UK’s Africa Gospel Music Awards 2012, and a groundbreaking victory as the Discovery of the Year at the Ghana Gospel Music Awards 2012.

This Ghanaian Urban Gospel group comprises three talented members: Obed Psych, Emani Beats, and Edmund Baidoo. Their song, “GO HARD,” resonated far and wide, becoming the theme song for numerous international radio stations, including GBS1 (UK), VOA (UK), and Angels of Sweet Melodies (USA).

4. KobbySalm
KobbySalm, born Samuel Kwabena Adjei Darteh on May 14th in Accra, Ghana, pursued his academic journey in Communications at the African University College Of Communications.

In 2016, a pivotal moment during a church service led him to embrace Christian/Gospel music. This divine encounter, guided by the Holy Spirit, ignited his calling to inspire and guide the youth through the power of his unique talents and personal life journey.
5. Miss Walters
In 2019, Linda Mireku Walters, the recipient of the Ghana Urban Gospel Music Awards Rap Artist of the Year, underwent a life-altering transformation after joining GospelTown Africa as their newest signee. Miss Walters, known by her stage name, had humble beginnings as a country girl. Her faith journey was sparked by a personal tragedy when her father passed away. Contrary to her upbringing in a non-Christian household, she held a deep admiration for rap music, drawing inspiration from artists like 2Pac, Notorious BIG, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and more.

The loss of her father served as a turning point in Miss Walters’ life, leading her to explore a newfound path within a church community. It was here that she encountered life-changing scriptures that shifted her perspective and introduced her to Jesus Christ, whose redemptive grace she believed in wholeheartedly.
