The Evolution of EmmaOMG and How the Church is Taking It

EmmaOMG, whose real name is Emmanuel Edunjobi, is a versatile gospel musician from Nigeria known for his significant contributions to the gospel and entertainment sectors. He began his career as a comedian but has successfully expanded his talents to include acting, music, and content creation, making him a prominent figure in the industry. Emmanuel’s love for entertainment began at an early age. At just eight years old, he joined his church choir as an instrumentalist, self-teaching himself to play the guitar, piano, and drums. While he excelled in comedy and acting, music remained his first love. This passion is evident in his Yoruba gospel praise medleys shared on Instagram and YouTube, along with his creative parodies of popular songs.

In 2019, EmmaOMG established The Ohemgee Band, a group of instrumentalists and singers who specialize in praise and worship music with a blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. Their performances at exclusive events in Lagos, coupled with EmmaOMG’s unique style, have made them a popular choice for high-energy gospel praise sessions. That same year, he also launched Faaji Friday, an annual variety and music show that has become a major event.

What sets EmmaOMG apart is his unique blend of humor and African sounds. Instead of following traditional gospel formats, he infuses contemporary beats, highlife, juju, and AfroGospel into his music. His viral remixes of classic hymns and praise songs, often accompanied by energetic African percussion, have revitalized gospel music. Songs like “E tí tóbi to” and his Gospel Juju Praise medleys have become go-to songs at weddings, events and on social media.

EmmaOMG has really made a name for himself in gospel music, especially among churches and believers. His gospel songs hit the sweet spot by being super relatable for younger folks while still giving a nod to the rich traditions that the older generations hold dear. It’s like he’s found the perfect balance.

One of his most talked-about performances has been the live version of “E Ti Tobi To,” which features The OhEmGee Choir, Pelumi Deborah, and BBO. He’s shown us that gospel music doesn’t have to be all serious; it can be fun and entertaining too. Through his music, he’s proving that you can have a great time while still connecting with your Father. Whether it’s through upbeat songs or creative expressions, he’s definitely changing the game. I can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with next.
