When people talk about innovation in the AfroGospel scene lately, one name keeps coming up: Dr. Foy, whose full name is Tochukwu MacFoy, the head of Energize Music.

Who Is Dr. Foy?

Dr. Foy wears many hats: a medical doctor by profession, but also a social media entrepreneur, PR strategist, producer, and cultural communicator. Under his leadership, Energize Music has become more than just a record label; it’s a hub that blends production, PR, distribution, tech, and ideas in ways that are reshaping how gospel music is created, shared, and experienced.

Strategic Partnerships & Distribution Power

One of the biggest recent moves Dr. Foy has made is orienting Energize Music toward global distribution and partnerships. In mid-2024, Energize Music entered into a strategic partnership with Orchard (a subsidiary of Sony Music). What this practically means is:

  • A much wider distribution reach for AfroGospel and family-friendly content. Artists under Energize now have better channels to get their music beyond local or regional boundaries.
  • More visibility for gospel as a genre that can compete in the mainstream, clean entertainment spaces. Dr. Foy’s vision is that gospel / family music doesn’t have to stay in niche or confined spaces; it can cross over, touch hearts in mainstream, and still retain its spiritual core.

Championing Excellence & Intentionality

Another way Dr. Foy has contributed recently is by raising the bar for what gospel music should be in terms of content, production, and artistic expression. He has spoken publicly about the need for excellence among gospel artists. In one social media post, he stressed that Christian singers should accept criticism, refine their craft, and avoid sloppy production just because they consider their art “sacred”.

Creating Platforms & Events: Energize Central & Energize Fest

Dr. Foy isn’t only about recording and distribution. He is active in building live, communal experiences and family-friendly entertainment. For example, Energize Central has become a new face of family entertainment. One of its notable events is Energize Fest, held in Lagos.

It’s a festival that fuses worship, praise, family shows, and entertainment in a holistic way.

Impact on Artists & the AfroGospel Space

Because of Dr. Foy’s contributions, several ripple effects are visible. This means that artists under Energize or affiliated with its networks have access to better production, better guidance in PR, and better exposure.

Dr. Foy’s latest moves suggest he sees three major directions ahead:

  • Global expansion via partnerships like that with Orchard, better distribution, and more international exposure for artists.
  • Raising standards for content, production quality, artist development, and live shows. Not just what gets made, but how it is made.
  • Cultural relevance & spiritual authenticity–not sacrificing either. Gospel music under his stewardship aims to stay connected to African cultures, languages, rhythms, while delivering messages of faith that are genuine.
