We’ve seen a lot of young musicians emerge from the afro gospel scene in the previous several years. Gil Joe is one such example.
It all began in 2009 when Gil Joe devoted his life to Christ at the age of 17. In just 11 months, he was able to develop his production and musical abilities by working with A4jeazy, one of the top Gospel music producers on the planet at the time.
When Gil Joe signed to Frank Edwards‘ record company Rocktown in 2013, he released his debut single, El Shaddai, featuring Frank Edwards. This was the start of big things for Gil Joe. The song grew popular, and because Gil Joe’s music was so distinctive from what listeners were used to, more people were drawn to it. Over the next few months, Gil Joe released popular songs including “Thanksgiving,” “Superstar (remix), and “Rain” with Frank Edwards, which once again showcased the young artist’s R&B side. “Provider” with CalledOut Music, “Grace” with Limoblaze, “Jesu Ni Logo” with Marizu, “Nobody (feat. Proud Refuge)” and “Jah!” with Frank Edwards are a few of Gill Joe’s remarkable collaborations with well known afro gospel artist.

He later released Yang Bilie, a remarkable song that gave rise to the distinctive nickname Christian Baller which has been associated with Gil Joe’s brand to this day. This hit song which shot to the top of Nigerian radio charts and beyond quickly gained popularity as a hashtag for properly attired and behaving Christian worldwide. Young people today use this term as a catchphrase for Gillians from various nations.
As more young people tried to emulate Gil Joe’s fashion sense, the young entrepreneur’s look also gained popularity. This served as the impetus for him to start his clothing line, Gilbert Joph (previously Gil Apparel). The rapidly expanding company eventually became one of the largest brands in Africa today after selling out her debut collection, Christian Baller.
As one of the first Gospel musicians to be included on one of the largest Network Music platforms, “MTN Y’ello Countdown,” Gil Joe’s music is now available to a wider audience alongside that of other African musicians. The song “Eledumare” received such an incredible response that Gil Joe’s first music video was shot.
