Tasha Cobbs: The Talented Singer

Today, we’re shinning light on a powerful minstrel who has contributed such an immense growth to the gospel music industry and the Body of Christ at large.

Are you a lover of Tasha Cobbs music? Then you should know more about your favorite artist.

Natasha Tameika Cobbs, globally known as Tasha Cobbs, is an American gospel musician and songwriter. She was born on July 7, 1981 into the family of Bishop Fritz Cobbs and Pastor Bertha Cobbs. She started leading worship at Jesus New Life Ministries, founded by her father. In 2017, in a private ceremony attended by family and friends, Tasha got married to Kenneth Leonard, a music producer and her longtime love.

Tasha kicked off her solo music journey back in 2010 with her very own album, “Smile,” which she released independently. That album really caught the ear of EMI Gospel, now known as Motown Gospel, who then released her EP, “Grace,” on February 5th, 2013.

And guess what? “Grace” made a splash on the Billboard charts! It landed at number 61 on the Billboard 200, and an impressive number 2 on the Top Gospel Albums chart. Even better, it later climbed all the way to number 1 on the Top Gospel Albums chart!

Her singles “Break Every Chain” and “For Your Glory” also reached No. 1 on the Hot Gospel Songs charts. Beyond the awards that these two songs were able to amass, they’re songs that continuously communicate God’s power to destroy every shackles of life, and also for a believer that longs to live for the glory of the Great King. “For Your Glory” is a musical expression of a person longing for intimacy with God, and living for His pleasure, which is a confirmation of what every mankind have been created to do – for Revelations 4:11 says: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

In 2014, at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Tasha Cobbs won her very first Grammy for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance. And that’s not all! She also had a fantastic time at the 44th GMA Dove Awards, where she picked up Gospel Performance of the Year, and Contemporary Gospel/Urban Song and Album of the Year. Then, just a year later, in 2015, she was honored as Gospel Artist of the Year at the 46th GMA Dove Awards. She’s definitely making waves for gospel music out there.

Tasha Cobbs Leonard has been featured on songs by artists like Kierra Sheard, Matt Redman, Steven Curtis Chapman, Todd Galberth, and Maverick City Music, among others. The Maverick feature titled “In The Room” also trended and got the attention of many, in which another young gospel singer, in person of Annatoria, had to make an Afrobeat version of the song.
