It feels like just yesterday that we exchanged New Year’s greetings, yet here we are in the middle of the year. A significant amount has transpired, reminiscent of the Yoruba phrase about the waters that have passed under the bridge. Despite everything, we remain grateful. So, if you’ve been a little out of the loop or just want to catch up on the latest in the AfroGospel space, here’s a roundup of what’s been happening and what you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
Another Hit by Mike Abdul
Nigerian AfroGospel star Mike Abdul is gearing up to drop another hit after his amazing song, ‘Ojoro’. His new track, ‘Fuji Rush’, is coming out on June 20, and it’s a fresh twist on his usual Fuji style. The launch is aimed at reaching fans both locally and globally, thanks to months of hard work from this talented artist. As Mike Abdul, puts it: “Taking the church to the streets is what we do. Fuji Rush is another way to express that mission. If you can move your body in praise, do it with Fuji Rush!”

Faith Meets Visibility Season
An exciting time for faith and visibility it has been as Pastor Lawrence Oyor and Gaise Baba achieved remarkable success on YouTube, boasting a monthly audience of over 20 million each, placing them among the top 10 YouTube music creators in Nigeria with the highest audience. Their recent collaboration, the “No Turning Back” remix, has garnered impressive attention, racking up 11 million views in just four weeks. Additionally, the animated version released shortly after has already surpassed 200,000 views and accumulated over 5 million streams on Spotify.
In a creative marketing move, a media organization launched a QR-powered out-of-home campaign, allowing fans to scan and stream the song quickly. The momentum continues with the “No Turning Back” tour, organized by Aramanda, which will take place across various universities in Nigeria from June to November. Schools on the lineup include the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, Babcock University, FUTA, UNILORIN, OOU, UNIPORT, UNIABUJA, Covenant University, and the University of Calabar. If you’re on campus, this is your chance to be part of something massive.
Musical Debut
So, Mount Zion Film Productions just premiered their first musical movie called Undersiege during their recent drama ministers power night. I’ve seen secular musical movies, but I can’t recall a gospel musical. A few months ago, Damilola Mike Bamiloye shared some behind-the-scenes pics from the set, so we knew something exciting was in the works.
This film blends music and drama in a way that’s never been done in Nigerian gospel cinema. From behind-the-scenes teasers to the official trailer, fans are excited. The cast features Greatman Takit in his acting debut, along with appearances from Mike Abdul, Gaise Bàbà who are both having their debuts as well, Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, and Pastor Lawrence Oyor. The storyline? A young artist desperate to “blow” gets more than he bargained for. I’m really looking forward to this one. It’s set to drop on June 22 on Damilola Mike Bamiloye’s YouTube channel.
So guys that’s it for now as regards updates in the world of afrogospel and even beyond. You can be rest assured that we will keep you posted on any update.
