Have you heard of Abbey Ojomu? Do you even know who that is? If not, especially if you’re a believer, you should ride with us on today’s history of women who do music as a ministry gift.
Ojomu Abiodun Wosilat, popularly known as Abbey Ojomu, is a songwriter and a psalmist. She’s from Lagos, Nigeria. Her story is such a unique one that has taken a trajectory of life. She was born into a Muslim background until 2010, when everything changed – an encounter was experienced, conversion happened.
She recalled a disease called tuberculosis that she battled with for years. According to her testimony in a meeting, the infection got so terrible that she couldn’t walk. But she knew there is a God who is greater and able to heal. On this fateful day, Abbey shared that she crawled out of the house at 1:00am to tell God that if He could deliver her from that sickness, she would serve Him for the rest of her life. And instantly, her healing miracle came.
Abbey’s encounter was not just a deliverance from physical illness, it transcends unto being delivered from the penalty of sin, guilt, and eternal damnation. So, her conversion story is very relatable and worthy of praising God for soul winning, and for such a gift in the Body of Christ. She’s indeed a great minstrel of God.

Abbey Ojomu recognized the call of God upon her life, and she moved onward to embrace the high calling. Her mandate is to take the gospel to ends of the earth through music, prayer, and the word of God by the power of Christ to set the captives free, preaching about Jesus to all nations of the earth.
It is notable to know that she’s a great psalmist, and a worship leader at the Harvesters International Christian Centre. Many started catching the wave of her ministry through popular worship songs, but by leading others to worship with a deep sense of conveying a powerful message that the song carries, which is one of the uniqueness of her ministry.
However, the first Abbey’s debut single that travelled faster was “QAVAH” featuring Theophilus Sunday, another great minstrel of God. The song reveals the state of a man’s heart who is desperately waiting on God to speak, give direction, or release strength for the journey ahead, especially until Christ is fully formed. See the lyrics of the song:
“(How long can you wait)
We behold until we are formed
(How long can you wait on Him)
We quavah until we have strength
(If it takes eternity, will you wait)
We behold until we are formed
(Nations wait upon the Lord)
We quavah until we have strength
Until we are formed
Until we have strength”

That is not just a song, it’s an experience every believer should desire to continually have because it shows dependence on God and a longing for divine intimacy. The song has birthed a movement, whereby Abbey is now the convener of QAVAH: The Waiting Room – a meeting where believers come together to pray intensively in seeking the face of the Lord; and also the Glory of God Conference.
Abbey Ojomu has released other couple of songs like “You Cover Me”, “Sound of the King”, “Dry Bones” and many more. We are grateful for this gift to the Body of Christ, and we believe that God will continue to sustain His vessel.
