Sunmisola Agbebi: A Notable Name in Nigerian Gospel Worship

Worship atmospheres can be incredibly intense, rich, and powerful. We’ve all had those moments where the music goes beyond just a tune and becomes a life-changing encounter. Many of us think of worship leaders like Dunsin Oyekan, Theophilus Sunday, and Nathaniel Bassey, who have constantly led great worship sessions. But today, let’s shine a light on another amazing worshipper who is making waves in gospel music.

Sunmisola Agbebi was born on May 2, 1998, in Lagos State, but hails from Ido-Osi in Ekiti State. Sunmisola’s passion for music was evident from a young age, with her first performance at just four years old. Her commitment to gospel music became more pronounced in 2017 when she participated in the Sound Check competition, where she competed alongside some of Nigeria’s finest musicians. That same year, she won the Ikorodu Radio Music Challenge, marking the official start of her professional career.

In October 2020, she released her debut single, “Amazing”. She gained widespread recognition in January 2022 with her hit song “Koseunti”, meaning “God that does the impossible” a reimagined version of a traditional Christ Apostolic Church worship song. Later in October 2022, she hosted her first live recording concert, As It Is In Heaven (AIIIH), at the Charis Event Center in Lagos State. During this concert, alongside Lawrence Oyor she released a revised version of the song “My Daddy My Daddy”.

Sunmisola’s music ministry has also received international recognition. In November 2022, she was invited to the Dubai Expo by Grammy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, where she performed “Holy Spirit Thank You” and “I Need You Now” by Matt Redman as well as “The Garden of Our Heart” alongside the Firdaus Orchestra. She has since ministered in various parts of Europe, the United Kingdom, and across Africa. In 2024, she released another hit single, “Aileyipada” (Unchangeable), which was widely embraced by her fans and gospel music lovers worldwide.

Sunmisola is happily married to her fellow gospel minister and talented worship leader, Yinka Okeleye. They got engaged on March 2, 2023, celebrated their marriage introduction a few days later on March 5, and joyfully tied the knot on June 3, 2023. Their lovely union is blessed with a sweet baby boy. Yinka has been an amazing support for Sunmisola during her worship sessions. Recently, at a live ministration, Sunmisola faced some vocal strain and had a tough time hitting those high notes. But her husband, Yinka Okeleye, stepped up in such a loving way by joining her on stage to lend a hand.

In 2022 she joined a couple of other gospel artists to have a gospel music tour around cities in the United States. Spotify has named her the EQUAL Africa Artist for February 2025, celebrating her incredible talent and growing influence in the gospel music industry. And just when we thought she had given us enough, Sunmisola released her debut album titled Glory in February 2025. A masterpiece filled with deep, spirit-lifting songs. If you haven’t listened to it yet, consider this your invitation to experience something truly divine.
