Here’s How Sounds of Salem Are Incorporating Afrobeats Into The Gospel

Like a wave, Sounds of Salem broke into the Christian music mainstream with their unique style, and almost everyone can’t do without their sounds because of its flavour, uniqueness, and aura that comes with singing the songs.

However, let’s do a background check into the person or group of persons behind the Sounds of Salem.

Introduction

A man of God called Joel Ogebe, is a servant of God whose ministry office is that of a Prophet. Check him out on different social media platforms, and you’ll see “prophetjoelogebe”. He is also known as ‘The Priest of Salem’ – for he is the lead prophet of the House of Salem Global – where he’s been saddled with the responsibility of raising an end time army in restoring back the order of the old prophetic house and bringing back the true move of God via the instrumentality of God’s word, prophetic sounds (where Sounds of Salem evolved from), and power.

By God’s help and the peculiarity of this ministry, especially as it revolves around forms of sound, have given much visibility to the ministry. As music is one of the beautiful arts that easily appeals to the intricacy of the human mind, so does everyone, regardless of tribe and race, have embraced the sounds of Salem. This can be traced to their usage of afrobeat i.e percussion rhythms and features elements like African style, jazz, funk etc, while still standing on business – which is the Kingdom mandate.

Evolution

The first song of the Sounds of Salem that trended was “The One Who Answers Prayers”. Based on findings in one of their mainstream services, the song broke out and everybody began to move to the sound. We’ve seen the likes of Dunsin Oyekan, Judikay, and Apostle Iren jump on the song. Though simple, it has danceable beats with percussion drum, the song also carries a deep meaning of having an assurance in the God who makes things happen, especially when you pray. Here’s the lyrics to the song:

The One who answers prayers/2x

The One who answers prayers is Your Name

Hallowed be Thy Name

Thy Kingdom come

The One who answers prayers is Your Name
