In the first week of December, Spotify released the 2024 wraps of its users. While this was indeed a great strategy to engage users, it raised a new level of conversation on Christian Twitter.
Should Christians listen to secular music? Of course, we had different responses to these questions. Some people said we are all at different levels of growth, while others said it doesn’t matter. Well, without being judgemental (actually, I could be a bit judgemental right now) why is anyone’s best musician Asake, yet the person listens to Theophilus Sunday or Minister Dunsin Oyekan. I mean, what relationship does ‘dey call me shallipopi’, have with ‘from my spirit to my soul’? Please don’t ask me how I know those lyrics.
Anyway, we listen, we don’t judge. I compiled a list of wraps I find amusing, and I would like to know what you think too.
I was wondering what Minister Dunsin Oyekan saw before he said this, perhaps he saw his name listed alongside Asake, Shallipopi and Drake. Just like the image below.
When I thought I had seen worse, I saw some others and I was quite interested in how people’s mind works.
I do have to agree that there are different things that we all lookout for when we listen to songs, for me it is first the lyrics before the beat. However, I prefer solemn beats to fast beats. Again, this is not to cast a finger on people, I believe you also would be curious.
Interesting this person on X said they will judge you. You too think am, how do you hear a song that loudly promotes fraud, nudity, sex and all manner of ungodly thing that you ask us not to judge you simply because you have Pastor Lawrence Oyor on your list. E be like say we gats nail you sef, no be only judge.
I pity those whose Pastors and leaders in the church must have seen their Spotify wraps. Much more, I pity those who are probably youth pastors, leaders in different capacities or even music ministers in their church. May the Lord be with them.
Anyway, these are just a bit of the Spotify wraps that we could lay hands upon. Till next year, when we do a recap of the most exciting Spotify wraps, keep streaming and listening to your favourite songs.
