5 Christmas Songs We look Forward to their Afro Gospel Remix

Christmas Socks

What if our Afro Gospel artistes decide to remix all our old Christmas songs and hymns? How much fun would that be?

Remember, in the early 2000s, there were several songs that ushered us into the holidays. The moment we heard those songs, we knew that it was certainly going to be a solid Christmas. Times have changed, and we no longer hear those songs on the radio or in commercial buses, and I feel like we are losing a touch of our heritage. Guys, we can’t lose the culture so soon. We have to keep hearing, ‘felix nabi da’ or whatever I used to sing before I discovered the real lyrics.

In this article, I am sharing a list of songs that I think Afro Gospel Artists can reform.

  • Odun lon s’opin: This is the first on my list. Maybe because I grew up in a C.A.C home, my parents played this song every year and I just never grew tired of it. The moment we get into December, it become so evident that we will always listen to this song every day. Now, imagine a reformation of this song in ampiano sound. Maybe a singer like Nikki Laoye, with EmmaohMyGod and so Limoblaze. Trust me, that song will be a power sound!

  • Keresimesi: If you schooled in Western Nigeria, I bet you know that song, ‘keresimesi, o made oo, eyin eniyan’. Those were Our usual end of the year song. Almost every school choir sang that song. Although singers like EmmaOhMyGod has sang this christmas song, but it won’t be entirely bad to have a christmas song in ampiano.

  • Jingle Bells: What is a Detty December without Jingle Bells? Even though I have never been able to completely memorize the lyrics of the song. I guess that doesn’t matter, we all just want to jingle the bells, wear fine clothes and eat party jollof rice. Now, imagine that someone like Minister Nifemi and Spirit of Prophecy decides to jump on this trend. Trust me, we will all be jamming the beat.

  • Joy to the world: As solemn as this song sounds, it would really make a lot of sense with a rap beat. Let’s say An Endless Ocean, with Called Out Music and Great man Takit.

  • Long time ago in Bethlehem: I remember that my secondary school used to organize choreography to this song every Christmas carol. Apart from the fact that the song tells us the story of the birth of Jesus, it will be a great afro-beat sound If Fuji is added to. So, Adekunle, the crooner of ‘Mo Like Jesu Gan’, featuring Rooftop MC and Mike Abdul.

In our next blog post, we will share the best Afro-gospel songs to have on your playlist this Christmas. In the meantime, listen to this list of Christmas songs here.
